Ein deutliches Statement gegen die Verfolgung von Homosexuellen in Russland ist zum weltweit besten Pressefoto des Jahres gewählt worden. Die Jury des World-Press-Photo-Wettbewerbs zeichnete in Amsterdam den dänischen Fotografen Mads Nissen mit dem mit 10.000 Euro dotierten Preis aus.
Der russische Fotograf Sergei Ilnitsky erhielt für ein Stillleben aus dem Krieg in der Ostukraine ebenfalls eine Auszeichnung.
